2 - The Trail of Life

Twilight
South Pacific Totem Pole
Below the horizon
there is light.
Is it too early? Is it too late?
Between dawn and dusk
there is a fight.

Dawn
Every day
the world is new,
every morning
the eyes open to a different beginning.

Morning
This is the time to join others
for strength and purpose,
for love and creation of life
for pain and joy
for sorrow and happiness.

Midday
These are the days of gold and power
when everything is possible,
when the world is there to conquer,
when you add your step to the trail of life,
when power comes and loneliness beckons.

Afternoon
Then and there, come the moments,
rare, always unique,
when you meet a light in the darkness,
a warmth you can shelter for a while
with luck never deserved,
a prize always won
and fought for, day after day.

Dusk
You try to let go and forget,
it can’t be, it can’t work,
you are asking for another turn
… the gods know
you don’t deserve it.
But there is this voice in your head
that can’t be drowned
that whispers and keeps you awake,
until you surrender
and jump on the wild wagon again.

Twilight
Below the horizon
there is light.
Should the time freeze
the defiant hope,
the rebellious mind,
should the heart stop longing,
you are no longer
alive.

1 - Warning

Sometimes,
the gods punish humans
by granting them their wishes.

To the chosen few,
they may instead open up a window
of previously unexplored opportunities.
